Israel ben Shabbetai of Kozienice (Maggid Kozienicer)

(c. 1737-1814)

   Polish Hasidic leader and scholar. He lived in Kozienice in central Poland. He was known for his ability to perform miraculous cures by means of prayers and the use of amulets. According to tradition, the failure of Napoleon's Russian expedition of 1811 was due to Israel ben Shabbetai's prayers.
